Gudetama Café is finally opening its doors in Suntec City Mall Singapore this Wednesday (tomorrow!), 30 November 2016. The popular Sanrio cartoon character is a very lazy cartoon egg, Gudetama, “Gude” meaning something with no energy, and “Tama” that represents a tamago or egg in Japanese. The world is in love with this adorable lazy egg!
Here are some things you wouldn’t want to miss during your visit to Singapore’s first ever Gudetama-themed cafe.
#1 “Nua” in Cute Gudetama-themed Interiors
With photo-ready spots at almost every corner of the cafe, you can’t miss out on bringing your phones and cameras down. Cosy up in the egg-shaped dome booths with your friends, where each booth comes with a cute Gudetama nestled in a different pose. How cute is that?
#2 Have Fun at Insta-worthy Spots
Did you know that the Gudetama Cafe has a water fountain with a Gudetama in a pan balanced on an eggshell? Once the final look is ready, be ready to get creative with your boomerangs as soon as you see water sprouting out from the fountains!
#3 Whip Out your Cameras for Gudetama Eggporn Shots
We know it’s a little nasty to murder these innocent looking eggs, but just look at all that yolk ooze out! We recommend trying the Gudetama Lobster Onsen (S$16) with its rich and creamy lobster bisque, and Eggcited Cajun Chicken with Waffles (S$23.9) with a perfectly grilled Cajun poultry. Truffle lovers rejoice, as you can now try out their Truffle Fries in a Cone ($16.5), with delicious shoestring fries sprinkled in parmesan cheese, served with garlic aioli and sriracha dips that will leave you wanting for more.
#4 Eggsquisite Desserts Co-Created by Food Stylist, @Littlemissbento
Can you believe that this Shoyu Ramen (S$21.5) is actually a dessert? It’s a chocolate mousse cake with Feuilletine, chestnut Mont Blanc and earl grey jelly, served with panna cotta and sweet rose tea. Curated and styled by bento artist Shirley Wong (going by the Instagram name, @Littlemissbento), it took the team many months of work for the menu design, presentation concepts, R&D, internal food tasting sessions and photoshoots. That’s a lot of effort put into making Gudetama Cafe exciting!
#5 Features a Dining Section, Garden-themed Space and a Retail Section!
With a large 2,300sqft space at Suntec City themed a “Food Playground”, the cafe features two areas, the Dining & Garden sections, with a water fountain, waffle ceilings, animated walls, and definitely cute Gudetama figurines that will leave you squealing in excitement. In fact, you may complete your Gudetama Cafe experience by checking out their Retail Section for limited-edition merchandise exclusive to Singapore.
As “gimmicky” as every cute themed cafe might sound, we were pleasantly surprised with many dishes. Nonetheless, it’s definitely worth a visit to check out the adorable lazy egg Gudetama dishes and give it a try yourself!
