Meet Dorothy Leong, The Girl Who Stole Our Hearts via The Texas Chicken Ad

In Texas Chicken’s new Laksa Chicken ad, most would expect the laksa chicken to get all the attention. Like, duh. However, that wasn’t the case. Dorothy Leong, who played Celine aka auntie’s daughter in the ad stole the spotlight with her supermodel looks and innocent girl-next-door attitude. Here, check out the ad and you’ll know what we’re talking about.

Lucky for you guys, we’ve gotten in contact with Dorothy. Turns out she’s a full-time model and actress in Singapore. She’s also a mass communication and film graduate from NTU. Brands she has worked with before include Takashimaya, L’Oréal, Shell, M1 & Changi. Get to know Dorothy better in the interview below!

How old are you this year?

I’m 25 years old.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m starting a beauty channel proper soon, that’s what I’m working on now! I was filming for Beauty Bound over the weekend. It’s a beauty creator competition that would be presented to an audience in a variety show format similar to American’s Next Top Model as a web series.

What gets you into modelling/acting in the first place?

Modelling was always a childhood dream. Acting was something that I stumbled upon while I was a film student that really intrigued me. I find acting to be the best place to be in storytelling because you get to live and experience the story from a first-person perspective.

So what to you prefer, filming or acting? Since you manage to get a taste of both sides.

Definitely acting! But I definitely wouldn’t mind being able to direct my own story one day.

If you can play any role in a Hollywood movie, what role would you wanna be?

Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games, she kicks ass! I like strong female characters. I would love the challenge of portraying the intense emotions she lives through and on how she’s larger than life.

So when did you start modelling?

I started modelling when I was 22, after joining a national pageant. It gave me the confidence to put myself out there and started applying for castings. I did many small jobs over the next 2 years which helped develop me into a competent model. Then I got my first break when I landed the main role in a TV commercial last year when I went full time.

Did you take acting classes or it was something you picked up naturally?

As opposed to what many think, acting never comes naturally. No matter how experienced you are, you still need constant training. That said, I think I do have the ability to access past memories and emotions easily and empathise with my character.

So we saw a video you recently did with Texas chicken. Has anyone recognized you on the street as the Texas chicken girl?

To be honest no one recognised me even when I was in the store itself eating Texas Chicken while the video was playing right outside at the entrance. I’ve been told I have a versatile look, and I can look pretty different with different styling and makeup, but that’s good for my job.

What kind of makeup style are you geared towards?

I like high fashion looks, natural looks and Korean celebrity inspired looks.

I’ve noticed your interest in Korean inspired fashion from your Instagram. Any Korean celebrities or artist that you follow closely?

I follow nana on Instagram, absolutely adore her ❤️. She is a certified makeup artist and model turned singer.

So what kinds of songs do you listen to?

I listen to some K-pop songs but mainly K-drama OSTs. Recently I have been listening to EDM!

Do check out her Youtube channel for upcoming videos on Beauty Bound.
